Students begin the move in process

With the beginning of a new semester comes the arrival of new students to the dorms on Southeastern’s campus and the hustle and hassle of checking in.

Students were allowed to begin moving in on Wednesday, Jan. 9-10 from noon to 4p.m. and for many students it marked the beginning of their life in on campus residences. For other students, it was an opportunity to move into a new dorm or room.

“I was previously in Hammond Hall on the fourth floor and now I’m in Louisiana [Hall],” said new resident assistant and freshman nursing major Hailey Woods.

Students moving into their new dorms began the process by visiting University Housing, filling out paperwork and receiving their keys. Many students brought friends and family to help them move in.

When asked about her decision to live on campus, Woods explained what she considered to be the perks of living on campus.

“It’s more convenient for me to move into the dorms because where I’m from it’s about an hour to an hour and 45 minutes away, and I wouldn’t want to commute through the Denham Springs and Walker traffic,” said Woods. “I’ve met a lot of people with same major as me this year and we all live on the same floor so basically we are taking the same classes and I can ask them about it.”

Southeastern offers 12 housing options, which includes dorms and apartments, for students looking to live on campus. Students are required to maintain full time enrollment and a grade point average of 2.0 to remain eligible for housing.

When asked to give a message to fellow students about living on campus, Woods expressed her happiness with her decision to live in a dorm.

“I would encourage students to live on campus, especially underclassmen students, because it gives them an opportunity to adjust and really feel out the university,” said Wood. “The environment is really good. Everyone is pretty friendly.”
