With an impending year that will surely entail late night study sessions, cram times and extended class hours, Southeastern students will be pleased to learn that the university has been renovating and adding to its on-campus dining facilities. The additions will add a larger variety of dining options and plans intended to streamline student cash-flow during the year.
The Quizno’s franchise is the newest addition to Southeastern’s campus. Serving soups, salads and sandwiches, the newest location in the chain opened on Monday, Jan. 24 at the former location of Roomie’s Café, near Friendship Circle. The Quizno’s is serving its full menu, but is not open for breakfast.
Roomie’s, in turn, has been relocated to a space adjacent to the Chick-fil-A. According to Campus dining market coordinator Jayme Dykes, the café was a mainstay at Southeastern and something which the Southeastern community wanted to see preserved. Although the former café location was needed for Quizno’s, it was deemed desirable to find another place with which to relocate. In keeping with these thoughts, many people could not be happier with the keeping of Roomie’s on campus.
“We’re glad to be opened and in the new location,” said Dykes.
Although Roomie’s hours are only 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dykes encourages students looking for that afternoon caffeine buzz to visit the on-campus Java City or Starbucks locations.
A popular campus dining facility has also received a face-lift. Chick-fil-A, the fast food restaurant based upon chicken strips and sandwiches received a thorough makeover. During the holidays, the restaurant had been retrofitted for a fresher, more modern look. These upgrades include new tiling and paint.
“The remodeling of Chick-fil-A was just a grand refresh that we were capable of doing during the break,” said Dykes. “Chick-fil-A has a newer and fresher look.”
Also new to Southeastern is the recently created texting promotion for students, staff and faculty. By simply texting “seludining” to 65374, people may sign up for special discounts and offers to be redeemed on campus. The texts will be sent out weekly and may be forwarded to anyone who might not have signed up.
“It’s kind of a way to say thank you for being valued customers,” said Dykes.
Another new option for students is the online purchasing of meal plans. The plans can now be purchased directly from the campus dining Web site at www.selu.edu/campusdish. In addition to the meal plans, additional cub cash may also be procured here.
