    Greeks take over campus

Greek Week 2014 ended with a hard stomp coming from the Greek Week Step Show. It was dedicated to the bond, dedication and hard work of each active chapter of sororities and fraternities on campus.
The week began on with a volleyball tournament on Sunday, March 3 on the court in the center of Greek Village.
Fraternities and sororities were paired together in competitions including a canned food drive and the annual Step Show. There were themes for each group which included Team Battleship, Operation, Trouble, Candy Land and Mouse Trap. Team Battleship was comprised of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Theta Phi Alpha Sorority and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Team Operation was Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Team Trouble was Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, Theta Xi Fraternity and Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. Team Candy Land was Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity, and Team Mouse Trap was Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Theta Chi Fraternity and Phi Mu Sorority.
Participating students contributed several hours of effort to come out on top at the end of Greek Week. According to the participants, the Step Show took a lot of hard work, dedication and practice, but it paid off in the end.
“Our practices were long and tiresome, but at the end of the day we did put out what we had to put out on the stage,” said Delton Burris, junior computer science and graphic design major and member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity. “I really feel like we made a good impression.”
Team Mouse Trap practiced early into the morning preparing for show. Despite the many hours of practice, they ran smoothly.
“It [practice] was so long we were practicing until one in the morning. It was very productive and everyone got their own input,” said Team Mouse Trap’s Russia Williams, senior early education major and member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. “It’s not like one person did all the work everybody equally got to do what they thought they needed to put in, so practices actually went well.”
In addition to the volleyball tournament and canned food drive, teams bonded during the Campus Activities Board Casino Night and remembered deceased alumni at the annual Golden Silence ceremony on Thursday, April 3.
The organizations worked together with a common goal of earning first place at the end of Greek Week.
“It was nothing but positive energy because we all had the common goal of wanting to win, for everyone to have fun and represent our organizations in the best way that we can,” said Laci Sherman, member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Many students enjoyed the 2014 Greek Week and felt it was one of the best in several years.
“This was my fourth Greek Week, and I would say by far this was the best Greek Week we ever had,” said Regdricka Jones, senior finance major and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. “We really got to bond with Kappa Alpha Order and AO Pi. We got to know them, network and we built a bond that’s going to last forever.”
The interaction between teams gave students the opportunity to bond and develop life-long relationships.
“I believe this year has been the best bond of groups. This far we’ve made friends and spent our last night bonding,” said Jeremy Lloyd, current Homecoming King and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity member.
At the conclusion of the Step Show teams received awards for their efforts throughout the week.
For Greek Week feature, first place went to team Battleship, second to team Candy Land and third to team Operation. For the Step performance, first place went to team Trouble, second place  to Candy Land and third place  to Battleship. For overall final standings, it was a tie for first between team Candy Land and team Battleship, third team Trouble, fourth team Operation and fifth team Mousetrap.
“We just wanted to thank everyone that supported us and thank Greek Life for having us put this on every year, and Order of Omega for making it happen,” said Harli Manuel, sophomore communication major and member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.
