Next 5K Rec Race ‘Mudder Mayhem’ coming soon

It is time for students to put on their running shoes and tie their laces for the next big race on campus.
Southeastern Recreational Sports and Wellness will be hosting a Rec Race series entitled Mudder Mayhem on May 10 at 5:30 p.m. The race will begin at North Oak Park, taking the runners through the park and around North Campus.
“Come out and get muddy.  Have fun, give yourself a challenge with challenge stations around the course and get squirted by a fire hose along the way,” said Megan Mast, assistant director of health and fitness. “Have fun with games that will be available after the race and dance to the music from the DJ. The Sports Management Association have obtained items that we will be raffling off, so bring some money to buy raffle tickets and refreshments, and don’t forget a change of clothes.”
The race is for 5K and open to walkers or runners. A one-mile fun-run will also take place after runners take off. The race costs $15 for Recreational Sports and Wellness members, which includes currently enrolled students, and $20 for non-members. Students automatically pay for RSW membership through semester fees.
“You can come by the Pennington Center to register,” said Mast.  “This is one of our few programs that we offer in which you don’t have to be a member of the Pennington Center to participate in.”
To register on the day of the race, participants must have the exact amount of money or a check.  All participants will receive a T-shirt and one serving of food after the race.
The race will directly benefit Southeastern students, as proceeds will go towards improving North Oak Park.
“Of course, this depends on how much money we generate, but we need to light field number four, add a pavilion and fix and improve the covered picnic areas,” said Mast. “Additionally, we would like to build sand volleyball courts out at the park. We want to purchase and build a low and high ropes course area.”
The Rec Race series is hosted every semester, and Mudder Mayhem will be the fourth race in the series. The Recreational Sports and Wellness Center is teaming up with sports management graduate and undergraduate classes, as well as the Sports Management Association this year.
“We’re very excited about this year’s race, the graduate, undergraduate and SMA did a wonderful job assisting RSW with this race,” said Mast.
Awards will be given to adult men and women who place first, second and third.  Also, participants in the one-mile fun run will receive a certificate.
