The first Friday Night Live event of the 2012 football season took place on Sept. 7 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Student Union Park. The event is held every Friday night on the weeks of home football games.
The event, hosted by Campus Activities Board (CAB), featured a foam party, a group performance by the cheerleaders and Lionettes, music, free pizza from Johnny’s Pizza House and free drinks.
“Everybody comes out, enjoys themselves and has a good time,” said Todd McElroy, the coordinator of CAB. “It’s a good time for everyone to meet people and build up the Southeastern community.”
For quite a while, no one dared to enter the foam pit, although a crowd built up in the union park as students ate and discussed plans for the upcoming game.
“We at Delta Tau Delta are very ready for the first game of the season,” said senior Dante Bidwell. “We will be out there tailgating.”
Many students commented on how Friday Night Live is normally held in Friendship Circle, but this year the location was different.
“They moved it to the park,” said Christopher Simoneaux, a junior majoring in marketing. “I think it is better here because there are more places to sit here and it’s probably easier to get power and hang out places, whereas in Friendship Circle you have to deal with car traffic.”
Many of the students were drawn to the event by the promise of food and friends.
“The reason I came out to Friday Night Live was because I wanted some free food, and I wanted to see who was out here and who’s getting ready for the big game tomorrow and just to hang out,” said Simoneaux. “I’m just really excited about the game tomorrow, and I think people wanting to just come out, chill and get some free food should definitely come out to Friday Night Live.”
During the event, a few football players came to pump up the crowd after the brief cheer by the cheerleaders and Lionettes.
It was not until much later during Friday Night Live that some students started getting into the foam pit.
