The Interfraternity Council (IFC) held its annual IFC Week in November. IFC President Aidan Hidalgo said the celebration reflected the progress, unity and community engagement the council has built throughout the year. For him, leading the council has strengthened his relationship with the university and the Hammond community.
Leading IFC Week in philanthropy projects and community engagement efforts, has allowed Hidalgo to work directly with the people, and the council who aims to support them.
Hidalgo said one of the most rewarding aspects of IFC membership is watching chapters work together during events for IFC Week.
“One of my favorite parts of being in IFC is seeing how fraternity members from different chapters can come together for a common purpose,” he said.
Events such as the annual basketball tournament play a significant role in strengthening connections across chapters. While competitive, the tournament encourages camaraderie and allows students the opportunity to engage with fraternities in a casual and welcoming environment.
Hidalgo said his time as IFC president has significantly shaped his connection to those inside and outside Greek life.
“This role has helped me become more intentional about fostering unity, service and shared values across different fraternities through one Infraternity Council,” he stated.
During IFC Week, chapters also participated in community trash pickups, demonstrating accountability and caring for shared spaces.
Looking ahead, Hidalgo said he wants IFC to continue expanding its presence and influence at Southeastern.
“I hope to see IFC continue to grow in visibility, impact and collaboration,” he said. One of his goals is to see the week-long tradition become an even larger part of campus culture.
Hidalgo also emphasized the importance of long-term service and philanthropy as IFC moves forward.
“I also hope the council strengthens its focus on service and philanthropy, allowing us to make an even greater difference in Hammond and on campus,” he stated.
