This semester, the Student Government Association (SGA) has recently provided a new test scholarship opportunity for SLU students.
The scholarship allows students to further their education by providing reimbursements for higher-level tests. It is designed to support students by covering the costs of standardized exams, such as the MCAT, GRE, Praxis or LSAT.
SGA Vice President Abigail Thompson expressed the impact the scholarship can have for students.
“Our mission as the Student Government Association is to always evaluate the best ways to have a positive impact on as many students as possible. We were hearing from so many students about how many of their programs require exams that create financial barriers. From the LSAT to GRE, we want to support the success of Southeastern students,” Thompson said.
The SGA President, Maria Nechaeva, presented the bill in August 2025, and Vice President Abigail Thompson wrote the bill. Both collaborated and advocated for the scholarship within the senate, which was then approved by the legislature.
“Southeastern’s school message is to get you there and I thought that was very fitting. The goal of the scholarship is to support students in everything they do,” Nacheva said.
After applications are reviewed and scored, ttudents who qualified and applied will receive reimbursements of $150-$250 based on the application and test they are taking. Reimbursement is available to students even after the exam has been completed.
“Most tests are in the spring, but if you took a test in the fall, it serves as a refund. So no matter when you take it, even if you take it within two years, you can still receive your money back,” Nacheva said.
