Delta Omicron gives back to the community one can at a time

Delta Omicron is preparing for the ‘season of giving’ with their benefit concert.

“Delta Omicron is a professional music fraternity,” said Morgan Curole, a senior music major and Music Director of Delta Omicron. “It creates an environment to prepare you for future career prospects whether it’s in music or in other businesses, education, any kind of professional success. We prepare our members for the future in all aspects.”

Delta Omicron uses each member’s individual talents to help give back to the community.

“Delta Omicron is an international music fraternity and we basically focus on helping our community through musical means,” said Cody Sires, a senior music major and president of Delta Omicron. “We’re trying to unite the world through music.”

Delta Omicron typically puts on a musicale every semester.

“This year our musicale is titled ‘An Enchanted Evening,’” said Curole. “We want to have a classy, sophisticated evening of classical, musical theatre, all types of music, languages, styles and this is the ability for people to show off their individual styles and techniques because all of their voices are so different and that’s what we want to celebrate.”

This year, Delta Omicron is turning their musical into a benefit concert to help support those who were affected by the flood.

“We turned it into a benefit concert due to all the recent events, students having financial issues due to the flood,” said Curole. “Some people are still struggling and we wanna make our contribution and so this benefit concert at the beginning of November is going to start off our full month fundraiser of canned goods and donations for people who are still struggling from the flood.”

To purchase a ticket, students can give a monetary donation of any amount or donate a canned good.

“What we’re really asking for is canned goods, that way we can donate them to a church in Denham Springs or in a Baton Rouge area that was affected by the flooding earlier this semester that caused a lot of people to just lose everything,” said Sires.

The concert will be on Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. in Pottle Auditorium.

“Our members are going to be performing music from their repertoire,” said Sires. “Music that they’re currently working on in order to one, give them an experience performing in front of people before we have our end of the semester juries where we’re judged by our faculty as well as just to give everybody a little taste of what we’re working on cause not everybody gets to see what we do.”
