On Thursday, Feb. 26, the Lion Pride Career Closet (LPCC), now operated by the College of Business, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Room 100 of Garrett Hall. The LPCC provides Southeastern students with gently used professional attire for interviews, career fairs, presentations and even commencement.
April Kemp, Department Head of Marketing and Supply Chain Management and Eta Tau Chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon Advisor, coordinates the LPPC.
The Southeastern Wesley Foundation ran the LPCC in McGehee Hall before it found its new home in Garrett Hall. The Wesley helped the College of Business take over the LPCC by donating its clothing racks and hangers over the winter break.
With the help of the professional sales and marketing business fraternity, Pi Sigma Epsilon, and Southeastern’s Professional Sales and Marketing Program’s Annual Golf Tournament, Kemp raised money for the career closet by holding an auction.
Kemp said, “We’ve raised about $15,000 from PSE to donate to the career closet initiatives.”
With these funds, the LPCC received a brand new IKEA closet system to organize its donations and make them accessible to students. Southeastern’s Physical Plant assembled and installed the structures.
Students, faculty, staff and community members had the opportunity to view the new LPCC in Garrett Hall during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The room glistened with green velvet curtains, motivational messages and Lion-themed artwork.
At the ceremony, Kemp shared with students, “When you walk in here, I hope you see possibility. I hope you feel prepared. And I hope you leave knowing you are ready to take the next step toward your future.”
