Freshman Taylor Bishop had all the answers for the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Islanders on Saturday, tossing a five-hit complete game to clinch the win and the series for the Lady Lions softball team.
After a 5-0 win on Friday, the Islanders came back to win 0-6 later that day. However, the Lady Lions finished the series stronger than ever with a 10-2 drubbing, led by the lower half of the lineup. Juniors Megan McCollum and Tori Sheppard, along with seniors Kayla Elswick and Katie Doyle, went 5-for-6 with five runs scored and five runs batted in.
“We saw our bottom of the order really pick it up at the plate today,” Southeastern head coach Pete Langlois said in an interview with lionsports.net. “This proves that anybody in our order can produce for us, which is encouraging moving forward. We’re also very proud of Taylor’s effort today. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hit us pretty well yesterday, but Taylor was able to get the job done today.”
Freshman outfielder Katie Lacour went 3-for-9 during the series, and leads the team with a .370 batting average. A pitching staff that struggled greatly a year ago has now posted a 2.66 ERA this season, led by junior college transfer Rachael Hellyer and Bishop.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, April 6 against in-state rival Nicholls State.
