Recreational Sports and Wellness unveils Rec Fest

For the first time ever, students, faculty and the surrounding community will be able to enjoy Rec Fest, an event put on by the Recreational Sports and Wellness Department.
Rec Fest will take place Saturday, April 20 at North Oak Park on Southeastern’s North Campus  5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.  It will cost $2 for students and $10 for non-students. The event will have a lively atmosphere filled with food, live music, performances, booths and team activities.  All activities will be free and include recreations such as volleyball, ping-pong, zumba, washer board and bootcamp classes.
The surrounding community will also get the opportunity to enjoy entertainment from some of Southeastern’s own student bands.  These bands include Mike Brandt, Vega, Falling from Fallacy and Sloppy and the Whippinators.
Rec Fest will be held in conjuction with the Louisiana Collegiate Intramural Recreational Association State Tournament.  Basketball and softball teams from around Louisiana schools will be in Hammond competing for a state title at the tournament.
“We hope to expect about 1,000 students,” said De’Anne McKell, Recreational Sports and Wellness employee.  “Some of the students will be from other Universities that are participating in the State Intramural Tournament.”
Student organizations can set up a booth at Rec Fest, promote their organizations and take in profit.
“Students can earn money for their organization by signing up for a booths to sell food,” said McKell.  “Booths are $100, and $75 if they have a performer/musician. Student organizations receive 100 percent on what they sell.”
Rec Fest will not only be a night of music, food and socializing, but a chance to have fun through physical recreation.
