Lady Lions strategize for continued winning streak

With the season coming to a close ending, Southeastern tennis has been making a positive mark in the Southland Conference. Overall, the team is currently 11-3 and although there have been match cancellations due to weather concerns, the Lady Lions have not given up on their fight to the finish.
Head Coach Jason Hayes believes that although the team has faced some tough opponents, they have what it takes to continue on with a positive mind-set.
“We’ve been playing some good tennis, we suffered some tough losses but those were to some good teams. We’re really happy with how good we’ve been working and fighting,” said Hayes. “The kids are really supporting each other, and if we get hot at the right time we can really win some good matches.”
The winning streak has been placed at a high bar, with the Lady Lions winning all six single games. Aside from their three losses, the team has learned how to maintain and strengthen their weaknesses in order for a win.
“You’re always trying to learn. You know the old saying, ‘If you win, you must’ve done something good and if you lost you done something bad,'” said Hayes. “It’s not accurate, but we want to look at every situation and even break it down to every point because the smarter you are the better you will play.”
With a two-week long break from playing, Hayes and his team plan to hit hard and carry on their winning streak with a positive mindset and headstrong decisions.
“We want to keep the girls positive, we want to believe in each other and know that the only way we’re going to be successful is if everybody continues to work hard to get together,” said Hayes. “It’s a long season and you have to rely on each other to know that the team is playing good and when we’re not playing good, we have to get positive. When we play our best tennis, we’re the best team in the conference. So we just have to continue working hard and believing in ourselves and hopefully it’ll work out for us.”
The Lady Lions’ next game is scheduled on April 5 at 12 p.m. as they face Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. More information regarding the Lady Lions tennis team can be found at lionsports.net.
