Ron Roberts’s third season as head coach of Southeastern football is shaping up to be a strong one. A final list of 2014 midyear additions has recently been added to the 2014 roster with many of the players from Louisiana. Most notably, six of the 11 new recruits have previous Football Bowl Subdivision experience.
Micah Eugene, Derrick Raymond and Jerqwinick Sandolph all moved to the Lions from the Louisiana State University Tigers. Eugene formerly played safety for LSU. The sophomore from Lafayette, La. started his career with the Tigers in 2011 as a redshirt freshman, getting no play time. He played in 13 games as a redshirt freshman in 2012, finishing the season with 29 tackles and 3.5 sacks, and played 10 games in 2013 with two starts. Last year, Eugene finished with 33 tackles.
Raymond, from New Orleans, spent two years as corner back for LSU but saw no playing time during his stay. Sandolph is a sophomore defensive back and a native of Boutte, La. In 2012 he played in nine games, and in 2013 he played for the Tigers in three games.
The University of Southern Mississippi is also represented on the midyear addition list with two players. Chris Briggs, from Franklinton, La., comes to the Lions with two years of experience as an Eagle wide receiver. Briggs played as a freshman in 10 games in 2011, catching 11 passes with 153 yards. Reed adds to the Lion offense as a sophomore offensive lineman, coming from El Paso, Texas.
Roberts adds depth, height and weight to his team bringing in southern talent and players from the west coast. Jordan Batiste played at Tulane University as a defensive back and led the team with seven sackws. Batiste, though, was positioned mostly as a nickel back. Linebacker Herbert Harris from Hinds Community College, and sophomore defensive lineman Philanteus ‘PJ’ Jarrett, bring in stopping power to the Lion defense.  
In an interview with Cophia-Lincoln Athletics, Jarrett says he enjoyed the energy and environment Lion football had to offer. He came to Southeastern the night the Lions played Sam Houston State for the second time and knew he would sign with the school.
“It was really great,” Jarrett said. “The atmosphere and everything was high tempo. The fans, they love the team very much, and they supported them 100 percent, and it’s a great place to go.”
Roberts and his staff also did some recruiting for offense as well, bringing in freshman quarterback D’Shaie Landor from University of Louisiana-Lafayette and offensive lineman Byron Smith from Ontario, Calif.
