Allan leads Lions golf in Mississippi

The Lions golf team finished eighth at the Old Waverly Collegiate Classic in West Point, Mississippi.
Leading the team for the second straight tournament, sophomore Lawrence Allan had an impressive performance and finished tied for the eighth spot among individuals. This tournament featured 10 teams that are currently ranked in the Golf Stat Top 100.
Play during the first round was suspended due to weather and was restarted following the finish of the second round. Allan led the field after the first round of competition. The Lions as a group came out of the first round in a tie for sixth place.
“I felt like I played well in this past tournament. I got off to a good start in tough conditions and it was nice to be leading after round one,” said Allan.
Southeastern was not able to have the same success in the second round as they did in the first. No player from the Lions was able to score even par, with one-over par being the best score to come out of the second round for the Lions. One day after leading the tournament with a four-under score, Allan settled for a two-over finish to the second round.
Although only one player from Southeastern’s squad finished under par in the final round, the finale would be the best round for the Lions. As a team, Southeastern ended the last round with a score of 289.
“We were hoping for better, but we still played pretty well. It was a deep field and as you get closer to the end of the season, these top teams are fighting harder and harder to get into the top-60,” said Head Coach Tim Baldwin.
Sophomore Eamon Bradley, who led the Lions on the final round of the tournament, looks to grow from this performance as the conference tournament approaches.
“Even though this tournament was a step in the right direction for me personally, I think that my individual performance and the team’s performance can be improved,” said Bradley. “It is only a matter of time until it clicks and we post some really good numbers.”
In order to advance to the NCAA Regionals, teams must rank in the top-60 or win their conference tournament. The Lions are winding down their season and only have one more tournament until the Southland Conference championship. Southeastern is the current Southland Conference champion and looks to defend that title in the coming tournaments.
“The boys are excited about securing our spot in regionals, as well as building toward successfully defending our Southland Conference Crown in the coming weeks,” said Bradley.
