Seniors Krohn, McMillan complete last regular season

The Lady Lions’ volleyball team winning streak came to an end after losses to both Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State University, bringing  an emotional end to the Senior Day celebration.
On Thursday, Nov. 7, the Lady Lions gave all three sets to SFA, 25-20, 25-20, 25-15. Though the Lady Lions fought to the fifth set, 21-25, 25-10, 24-26, 25-18, 15-12, in the game versus NSU on Saturday, Nov. 9, it was not enough to win, leaving the last two home games of the volleyball season a bust.
“I think we battled really hard,” said Head Coach Jim Smoot. “That’s all you can ask for. They gave it 100 percent. We were plagued by some inconsistency, and that probably was the difference in the outcome.”
Though the Lady Lions ultimately lost, senior defensive specialist/libero Cherish Krohn was able to look on the bright side of facing a team that holds second in conference.
“I’m really proud of the team, how hard we fought,” said Krohn. “Northwestern’s second in conference, so it was really good for us to take them to five [sets] and come out and battle as hard as we could.”
After the game on Saturday, Krohn and senior defensive specialist/libero Megan McMillan were celebrated for their volleyball careers on the last home game of the season. Emotions ran high as Krohn and McMillan reflected on their time with the Lady Lions.
“It’s crazy,” said Krohn. “I feel like I was a freshman yesterday, playing my first game on this court. Four years have gone by so fast, but I’m just grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had while I played here at Southeastern.”
“It’s really surreal right now,” said McMillan. “It doesn’t seem like it’s my last game, but it’s amazing, and I feel very grateful to have played on this court for the last four years. I’m going to miss it a lot.”
Smoot expressed pride in McMillan and Krohn for the few months that he has coached them, saying the two brought a lot of power to the team.
“We’re really going to miss both of them,” said Smoot. “As a coach, the one thing you ask is that people just give 100 percent all the time. Both of those girls, every day in practice, every match, gave it their all, and we’re going to miss that. They’re great team leaders, fun to be around. It’s going to be a big loss for us.”
The Lady Lions will face Oral Roberts in the next game on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in Tulsa, Okla
