Sophomore outfielder Katie Lacour of the Lady Lion's softball team was recently named to the 2014 All-Southland Conference first team. During her freshman year at the start of her college career, she played right field, but she recently moved to centerfield. Lacour plans to spread her love for softball by inspiring other young athletes to strive for excellence in the sport.
The Lion's Roar: How long have you been playing softball?
Katie Lacour: My interest in softball and all sports began as a young girl. My mom was a coach at PSJHS, and after school, I would watch the practices and even travel with the team to their games. I have been playing softball competitively since I was about 11. My mom would drive me to tournaments locally. As I got older and started to take the game more serious, we would travel all over to play softball and get the experience that I needed to become the player I am today.
TLR: What does it mean to you to be a Lion?
KL: To be a Lion means to have the drive and dedication to be the best player, teammate, friend and student that you can be both on and off the field.
TLR: How do you feel this season went?
KL: This season was a bit of a disappointment. Last season we made it to the conference tournament and this year, we did not. Coming back from a season like last year gave us high hopes of returning to the tournament; however, this year was not our year.
TLR: How does it feel to be named to the All-Southland first team?
KL: Being named to the All-Southland conference first team is definitely a great accomplishment that I have been working toward since I have been at Southeastern. It is a daily reminder that all my hard work is paying off.
TLR: What are your future plans, and how do you plan to incorporate softball in your life?
KL: My future plans include moving back to Florida [to] teach elementary PE. Softball will always be a part of my life. Whether it's coaching or giving lessons to kids, I'll never be able to stay away from it.
