Jacob Fisher went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs while Josh Janway pitched five shutout innings in his second start to lead Southeastern Louisiana to a 5-1 win over Lamar in the finale of a three-game Southland Conference series on Sunday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Justin Boudreaux added a solo home run and Brock Hebert hit an RBI double as Southeastern (19-10, 7-5 SLC) claimed the weekend series with wins in the final two games and holding Lamar (19-12, 7-5 SLC) to five runs in three games.

Janway (3-0), a former Parkview Baptist product, scattered seven hits with fanned three batters while being aided by three double plays. Joseph Koon pitched innings in relief for the Lions before Stefan Lopez retired the Cardinals in order, with a pair of strikeouts, in the ninth.

“Pitching was huge for us all weekend,” Southeastern head coach Jay Artigues said. “All three of our starters threw the ball well and our bullpen was real good, especially today. Josh gave us a good start today, Joseph Koon came out of the bullpen and did a great job and Stefan (Lopez) came in to close it out.”

Southeastern took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Lamar turned a double play on a sharp liner by Cass Hargis to shortstop Aaron Buchanan. Right-fielder Britt Gautreaux and Cody Gougler each drew walks off Lamar starter Shane Hamaker (4-3) before Fisher singled up the middle to score Gautreaux.

Lamar threatened in the top of the third as Ted Zentek reached on a one-out error and moved to second on an infield single by Jeff Abt. Wade Mathis followed with a single to right field, but Gautreaux’s throw to the plate was ahead of Zentek and kept the Cardinals off the board.

The Lions took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Boudreaux belted a 1-and-0 pitch from Hamaker over the left-field fence for his sixth home run of the season.

Fisher, a former Zachary High product, delivered a two-run single to give Southeastern a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning after Gautreaux reached on a one-out walk and Gougler doubled over the head of left-fielder Kevin Roebuck.

“We got some big hits and that’s what I like to see,” Artigues said. “Our hitters did a great job of focusing and sticking to the plan and executed well all weekend.”

Hebert, who finished 2-for-5, gave the Lions a 5-0 lead in the sixth when his two-out double off Cardinal reliever Stephen Tromblee scored Gougler, who had reached on an error and stole second.

Southeastern’s bottom third of the order – Gautreaux, Gougler and Fisher – went a combined 3-for-6 at the plate, but drew five of the six walks issued by five Lamar pitchers with Gougler going 1-for-1 and reaching base safely all four times at the plate (two walks, hit by pitch).

Hamaker took the loss for Lamar allowing four runs on six hits with a strikeout. The Cardinals avoided a shutout in the seventh when pinch-hitter Clayton Farhat singled through the right side and moved to third on a two-base error that allowed Pablo Salinas to score from first.

Southeastern will return to action on Tuesday when it plays host to South Alabama (14-13) in a 6 p.m. contest. The game is Southeastern Employee Appreciation Day with the Southeastern Alumni Association hosting a tailgate party in the parking garage adjacent to Strawberry Stadium.
