The Lady Lions dropped their final two home games of the season last week in a match versus UT-Arlington on Thursday and the last game versus league leader Texas State on Saturday in three sets (25-10, 25-20, 25-13).
Thursday’s match saw the Lady Lions crack a season high with 11 blocks. The match lasted four sets (25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15) and senior Paige Dollison tallied a team high 11 kills on the evening.
The Lady Lions had three players in double digits in digs as Megan McMillan collected 18, Taylor Buckner 16 and Cherish Krohn 11.
The Lady Lions took the third set 22-25 to avoid the sweep. The Lady Lions collected six of their 11 blocks in this set, but the Mavericks would rebound in the fourth set, taking the match.
Saturday, the Lady Lions celebrated Senior Day as a trio of players including Paige Dollison, Arianne Cruckshank and Chelsea Barr, played their last game in the University Center.
“Paige Dollison has really stepped up, she’s our captain and its going to be hard shoes to fill,” said head coach Geno Frugoli. “Then Chelsea and Arianne, all three of them have contributed so much.”
When asked about how it has been playing with her fellow senior teammates Dollison added:
“It’s been awesome. I came in with Arianne and we got really close and of course Chelsea came in later, it’s just been great.”
The Bobcats swept Southeastern, taking three straight sets on the day. The Lady Lions were led by Courtney Donald with seven kills, followed by Kinsey Williams with six kills of her own. The Lady Lions played the second set close, in the 25-20 loss. The Bobcats took an 8-2 lead but the Lady Lions fought back and closed the set 13-12 midway through the set. Southeastern never led in the set and after getting the match 21-20, the Bobcats went on scoring five straight points.
“If you saw us all year we’ve been getting to that point to where we’re close in games and then were having trouble finishing,” said Frugoli. “It’s a good sign that we’re getting in that situation because you have to get in that situation before you can overcome them.”
