The Campus Activities Board (CAB) hosted Live at the Oak from 7-10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4 to get people ready for Southeastern’s Homecoming game against Sam Houston State.
This week’s event offered students the chance to sing Karaoke along with the usual tailgate raffle and washer board tournament.
CAB also had food provided by Raising Canes and several other refreshments.
Normally, this event is held in friendship circle by friendship oak, but it was moved to the student union park.
“There is an alumni dinner at twelve oaks,” said sophomore Business major Branden Summers. “We moved here so we wouldn’t interfere by being loud.”
Even though this Friday Night Live was the day before the Homecoming game, it had nothing to do with the events that go on during homecoming.
Some of the students were expecting the event to have ties to homecoming.
“I enjoy the things that they have,” said Cameron Sheppard a freshman majoring in Psychology. “I was just expecting to see more Southeastern decorations and themes since this is homecoming week, they could have at least put up the Roomie the lion inflatable like the first one they had this semester.”
Friday Night Live at the Oak is a great way for students to interact with one another and meet new people.
It took a little while for the students to get the courage to do the karaoke but after some time passed there was a line of students waiting to have an attempt at their favorite songs.
The list of songs available for the karaoke, contained a variety of songs for the students to sing.
Some of the songs sung were “Wanna Be” by the spice girls, “Milkshake” by Kelis and “Tick Tock” by Ke$ha.
In order for those who signed up for karaoke to be able to have a chance to go, CAB had to stop more students from signing up.
Towards the end of the event the tailgating package was raffled off to freshman middle education major Cody Hanken.
“It feels great to win,” said Hanken. “I’ll probably be using this tomorrow.”
The next free event that will be offered to Southeastern students is “Leo’s Iceland.” This event is a trip to an Ice skating rink on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m.
Students are only asked to give a $5 refundable deposit to reserve their seat on the bus.
