    Fe-Lions recruit for new members

The Female Enthusiast (F.E.) Lions, the social organization for female fans of Southeastern athletics, have announced their schedule and are busily recruiting avid, female athletic fans during the upcoming 2011-12 football season.

The group was initially founded by Pam Skibinski in 2003. Skibinski, an avid football fan, was excited about the return of Southeastern football and felt the need for an organization that would cater to the female football fans on campus. She saw this organization as a group that would be geared exclusively to women interested in football.

“It’s a great group that promotes Southeastern Athletics and athlete mentoring. The members attend all games and functions and always have a lot of fun,” said Southeastern Alumni Association Director Kathy Pittman. This group was founded with only 100 members in 2003 and, according to Pittman, has doubled its membership to well over 200.

The group hosts several events following the course of the season and schedule luncheons in tandem with the football team’s home games.

“Our programs promise to be more fun than ever, with great speakers, lively commentary, delicious food, and spirited chatter among our member,” said Pittman. “You won’t want to miss a single event, and you surely won’t want to miss an opportunity to get your tickets for Champagne Bingo. It’s not too late to join the fun, so mark your calendars and get ready to show your F.E. Lion spirit.”

One of the more well-known and popular events hosted by the F.E. Lions is the annual Champagne Bingo fundraiser. This event brings together over 500 women with ages ranging from 21-90 and consistently raises over $25,000.

“The money raised by Champagne Bingo goes to support Athletics by funding scholarships, recruiting and stipends for coaches,” Pittman said.

To join the F.E. Lions a prospective member must fill out the online form found on the F.E. Lions Web site or call the Alumni Office at 985-549-2150 and have a registration form mailed to them. Although there is not a minimum age to join, most members are above the age of . The member must also pay a $10 membership fee using a credit card. This fee does not cover any of the luncheons or Champagne Bingo.

The schedule for the F.E. Lions’ luncheons along with other important information can be found on their Web site www2.selu.edu/orgs/felions/. For more information about the F.E. Lions organization contact the Southeastern Alumni Association at 985-549-2150 or 1-800-758-2586.
