The Lions Roar: How did you get into volleyball?

Morgan Todd: My dad played when he was in the navy. He played beach volleyball. When I was younger at the age of eight I got into it. He was my coach and my mom was my coach for a couple years. I just loved it and ever since I always played and it’s something I love to do.

TLR: What is your most memorable moment in volleyball?

MT: When I won state in a public school where that’s never happen in a long time and for that to happen it was really good. I was really excited for my team, and also when I got a scholarship here. I am 5’2 and that doesn’t happen.

TLR: Do you have any goals this season?

MT: Yes, my goal for this team is to win conference. I want our team to win conference because last year we didn’t make it to the conference tournament. I think we have it in us.

TLR: What do you like most about volleyball?

MT: I like playing for my team to make them look good. That’s my position and I just love it. It’s something that I’m good at.

TLR: What are your pregame rituals?

MT: Before I put on my jersey, I sit there and I see myself passing the ball and serving the ball. Then I say who am I going to play for today. Am I going to play for myself, my team, my coach or my parents? What am I going to do before I go out there?

TLR: What are your hopes after college?

MT: I kind of want to be a volleyball coach, but I am not sure what I want to do yet.

TLR: Who inspires you and is your role model?

MT: My parents, since my dad taught me volleyball and my mom is always there pushing me. They’re always who I play for. They always push me to play because I’m short, but I should play better than any player out there.

TLR: How do you work with your team and how is the relationship?

MT: We are best friends. We are like a family: we get mad at each other all the time, and the next day we are like best friends. Like nothing happened. If we are mad at each other on the court it does not affect us, like, “Oh, I’m not going to set you.” We all play for each other no matter what. That is our goal every time we walk on the court. I love how we are a family all the time. If we have a problem we talk to each other.

TLR: How does it feel being named athlete of the week?

MT: I like it, it’s pretty awesome, but I’m still working. I still want to win conference and reach my goal. And after that we want to win national championship.

TLR: What advice would you give to a girl who wants to play volleyball at the college level?

MT: I would say it doesn’t matter how tall you are. Because everyone always tells me, “Oh you’re a volleyball player” and I’m like, “yeah.” Play your heart out every time you go on the court because it is going to go fast. Four years is fast.
