    Lady Lions earn mixed results

    On Thursday, the Lady Lions’ volleyball team traveled to Stopher Gym in Thibodaux to take on the Nicholls Colonels. 

    The Lady Lions came together and claimed the first set, 25-22. The Colonels conquered the Lions in the next two matches, 23-25, 19-25.

    Southeastern returned to the floor ready to fight on the fourth match. The Lady Lions were able to grab the fourth match with a score of 25-12 tying up the game total 2-2.

    With the set scores tied, the Colonels and the Lions took the court to battle it out. Nicholls quickly took the lead but Southeastern came back and scored nine of the 11 final points leading to their victory, 16-14 as well as winning the match for the Southland Conference.

    The key players were Sarah Friedman with 13 kills, three aces and blocks, Parrie Hartley with 11 kills and one ace, Veronica Turk with 11 kills, one ace and four blocks and Tiffany Thomas with 10 kills, one ace and five blocks. 

    Mikayla Shippy was able to help during the matches with 45 assists, Rachael Bunn and Morgan Miller followed with three assists and Morgan Todd lent two assists. 

    The leaders for digs were Todd with 38, Thomas with 17, Brooke Balser with 16 and Shippy with 10.

    The Lady Lions then traveled to Lake Charles to face McNeese State in the Memorial Gym, but did not fare as well losing all three sets, 25-16, 25-15 and 26-24.

    The key players for the match against McNeese were Friedman with 12 kills and three blocks, Landry Bullock with six kills and two blocks, Thomas with four kills and blocks and Bunn with two kills and three blocks. 

    The lead players for assists were Shippy with 19 assists, Miller with six and Hartley with one assist. 

    The leaders for the Lady Lions for digs were Balser with eight, Todd with seven and Hartley and Miller with six digs. 

    After losing to McNeese, the Lady Lions still remain in seventh place for the Southland Conference with four more regular season matches remaining. 

    Southeastern will end their four-match set of away games when they travel to battle Sam Houston State on Thursday and the follow up by competing against Lamar on Saturday.
