    Lady Lions clinch postseason

    The team celebrates after scoring a point earlier this season. This year will be the team's first participation in the conference tournament in over year.

    The Lady Lion’s volleyball team traveled once again for two away games this weekend against Sam Houston State and Lamar. 

    Though the Lady Lions dropped the ball against Sam Houston State, they came back and conquered when pitted against Lamar. 

    For the match against SHS, the Southeastern Lady Lions dropped all three sets in this Southland Conference play, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.

    The Lions were able to keep their seventh place slot in the Southland Conference play even after the loss. 

    The key players for kills, aces and blocks for this game were Sarah Friedman with 12 kills and one ace, Rachael Bunn with seven kills and one block, Elizabeth Ramee with seven kills and one block and Landry Bullock with five kills and two blocks. 

    Leading the Lady Lions in digs was Morgan Todd with 16 digs, Mikayla Shippy and Brooke Balser with six digs and Kacey Freeman with five digs.

    The standout player during this match was Shippy, who proved a major boon as she helped out with 31 assists on the court.

    Southeastern then traveled to Beaumont, Texas on Saturday to take home a five-set win against Lamar, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 13-25, 15-13. 

    This win marked the Lady Lions having their most conference victories since the 2004 season. 

    The key players for kills, aces and blocks against Lamar was Tiffany Thomas with 17 kills, one ace and two blocks, Parrie Hartley with 13 kills and one ace, Ramee with 10 kills and one block and Bullock with eight kills and one block. 

    To help the team with digs was Todd with 17, Hartley with 11, Freeman with nine and Thomas with seven.

    Leading the Lady Lions in assists were Shippy with 36, Morgan Miller with six, Thomas with four and Bunn with two.

    Southeastern is currently sitting in seventh place, one-half game behind Houston Baptist. Lamar is tied with McNeese and sits one game behind Nicholls State for the eighth spot in the Southland Conference. 

    The final home game for the Lady Lions will be tonight against Nicholls State in the University Center at 7 p.m. The home game is free for everyone. 

    On Thursday, the Lady Lions will travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on Central Arkansas for the last game of the regular season of conference play. 

    The Lady Lions will make its second trip to the Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament in three seasons which will take place in Natchitoches, Louisiana on Nov. 21-23.
