In the last game of the season, the Lady Lions basketball team challenged Nicholls State University.
Taking the lead with 34-30 points in the first half, the Lady Lions unfortunately finished with a losing score of 77-74 after a close game.
With this being the last game Senior Day ceremony took place before the game. The team’s seniors, Annessa De La Cruz, Elizabeth Styles, Jameika Hoskins, Symone Miller and Adrina LaVern, were recognized for their hard work and dedication throughout their seasons playing with Southeastern.
Each senior walked down the court with their desired family members and were given gifts, including balloons and leis. A portrait of the player was also presented with head coach Yolanda Moore.
After the Senior Day celebration, it was time to focus on the game.
Within the first eight minutes of the game, freshman guard Taylin Underwood scored the first four points with two field goals.
Overall the Lions completed the first half with 14 field goals with four field goals coming from behind the arc.
Senior guard Styles had an outstanding total of eight field goals, one three-point field goal, four free throws, along with several rebounds and assists.
Playing tough in the second half, the Lady Lions resulted with 12 field goals, three three-point field goals and 13 free throws.
Even though they did not make the playoffs, the Lady Lions will stick it out and work extra hard to come back stronger next season.
Continuing with a losing streak earlier in the week, on Feb. 28, the Lions also lost 73-57 against University of Central Arkansas.
Following that game the Lions also lost to New Orleans with a score of 75-84.
Despite the streak of losses, the Lady Lions have played their toughest and stuck it out all the way through the season.
“I got close to all the seniors and it went by way faster than I thought it would. It was really sad, but it was fun,” said Underwood.
Styles reached 1,000 career points becoming the fourth in school history to have both career points and 500 career assists. She was awarded with a 1,000-point club basketball inscribed with her name.
After a long and hard season, the seniors said goodbye to their team and hello to their future.
