Amber Darville is a member of Southeastern’s track and field team, participating in field- throwing events. The Baton Rouge native is a senior and has managed to set high stakes during her four year term. During the fifth annual Battle of the Bayou competition, Darville placed third during the women’s hammer throw event with a distance of (151 feet, 06.00 inches).
The Lion’s Roar: How long have you been participating in track and field?
Amber Darville: I have been participating in track and field for 16 years. I started running at seven years old and field events at 15 years old.
TLR: What would you say is your biggest challenge being a student athlete?
AD: My biggest challenge is sacrificing time with my family.
TLR: How do you manage to spend time with family and friends with such a hectic schedule?
AD: I manage to spend time with them on the weekends, when I don’t have a track meet.
TLR: What are some personal goals you set for yourself during the competition?
AD: My personal goal when it comes down to competing is no matter the results, give my best.
TLR: Aside from being in track, what other hobbies do you enjoy?
AD: I enjoy reading, volunteering, cooking and watching TV.
TLR: Who would you say is your biggest inspiration when it comes down to track and field?
AD: My dad and brothers are my biggest inspiration.
TLR: What or whom inspired you to pursue your sport?
AD: My family inspired me to purse track.
TLR: What would you say is your biggest achievement with being a part of the university’s track and field team?
AD: My biggest achievement with being a part of the track and field team would have to be the consistent growth I have achieved throughout my four years.
TLR: What are some things you do before a competition to keep yourself focused?
AD: Before a competition, I pray and practice my technique.
TLR: What is the best advice you have ever received from a coach or teammate?
AD: The best advice I have received from a teammate was, “If you are not doing it because you enjoy it, you are wasting your time.”
TLR: What would you say was your biggest accomplishment in track and field?
AD: My biggest accomplishment is not giving up and working to get better.
TLR: What would be some words of wisdom you would share to a young girl wanting to participate in Track and Field during college?
AD: My advice would be to enjoy yourself and work hard, but education always comes first.
