Ryan Byers is a sophomore majoring in athletic training and plays left field for the Lions baseball team. During his duration as a team player, Byers has managed to gain outstanding player stats throughout his freshman and sophomore years, from scoring multiple winning runs and helping send the Lions to their tournament championship game. Recently, Byers was awarded 2015 Southland Hitter of the Week on April 20.
The Lion’s Roar: How long have you been playing baseball?
Ryan Byers: I started playing baseball when I was four years old.
TLR: What or whom inspired you to become a baseball player?
RB: I was inspired by my dad.
TLR: What do you enjoy the most about playing baseball?
RB: I really enjoy playing the game, and I love the thrill.
TLR: How do you balance school, your social life and baseball practice?
RB: I try my hardest to stay on top of my school work because school comes first, then baseball and whatever else I have time for.
TLR: Besides baseball, what are some other hobbies you enjoy?
RB: I enjoy playing PlayStation and hanging out with my friends.
TLR: What are some goals you set for yourself throughout the season?
RB: Throughout the season, I set goals to become the best I can be and try not to let my team down.
TLR: Who is your favorite baseball player?
RB: My favorite player has to be Robinson Canó.
TLR: What would you say was your biggest accomplishment during this season?
RB: My biggest accomplishment was probably earning the walk off-home run against Northwestern.
TLR: What are your future plans after college?
RB: If baseball doesn’t work out for me, I plan on becoming a history teacher along with coaching baseball or football.
TLR: How does it feel being a part of the Southeastern baseball team?
RB: It’s great, and I love it. It’s like an entire family, almost like a brotherhood.
TLR: What was the best advice you have ever received from a coach, teammate or family member?
RB: To always play the game as hard as you can and always give 110 percent.
TLR: What would be some encouraging words you would share to a young man wanting to become a baseball player?
RB: Work as hard as you can.
