At their meet at the University of Texas, the Lions’ track and field team not only broke several  records but also had a successful meet overall with their wins. These included freshman thrower Ashley Davis and her school record in the shot put. Junior pole vaulter Devin King and the 4×4 relays set their second best records in their respective events. Head Coach Sean Brady talked about how he felt on Saturday, Apr. 1 about the past meets that week and the one he was currently at.

“We had a fantastic meet, and it was a big competition for us,” said Brady. “It was a really important meet, it gave us a good opportunity to check the other teams’ progress and to know what we’re up against and to know what teams we really had to look out for. But overall it was a great meet. We had many season bests, personal records and even some national records broken over the last few days.”

Out of the records and bests beat that week, senior hammer thrower Alex Young, broke his own school record throwing 235 feet, 5 inches and senior distance runner Andre Colebrook rose above the rest in their performances. Brady spoke about how he felt about them and their events.

“Andre and Alex both performed great at these meets,” said Brady. “It was probably the biggest meet for the both of them and it was a great competition for them.”

Colebrook broke his personal best when running to qualify for the 400-meter hurdles, and Young went on to break the university’s record in hammer throw for the second week in a row. Brady talked about how he was looking forward to seeing his run despite the weather and was also expecting some good work from King that day.

“Andre will come back for the 4×4 relay this afternoon,” said Brady. “He actually placed second for his division for the qualifying rounds. But really he wanted to save himself the 4×4 hurdles, and I really think he did a good job. So assuming the weather holds out we’re looking forward to his performance at these meets, along with Devin King we think we’ll see some pretty great things.”

Brady had much to say about how proud he was of Colebrook’s and Young’s performances inside the classroom as well as on the track and the field.

“Alex and Andre are both poster children when it comes to athletics,” said Brady. “As coaches we are always really happy to have the opportunity to coach athletes such as these fine young men. They’re both grad school students, so they’re both taking grad student classes and they’re really doing well in school and I’m really pleased with them. So they’re great team members and very mature athletes.”

Overall, Brady was very happy with Colebrook and Young and talked about how he looked forward to seeing them in the rest of the season as well as how he was pleased with the team as a whole.

“Students like these are always a complete pleasure to coach,” said Brady. “They are very pleasant and nice during practices and always ready to give it their all. Athletes like these are sadly not the norm, but really their not unique on this team because the rest of the athletes catch on to their positive attitude. They are just great students and athletes. They make coaching them a real pleasant experience, and I’m really looking forward to what they do next.”
