Dance academy to host Irish dance class

Students and the general public for the first time have a chance to participate in a free demonstration class of Irish dancing taught by Ariel Assaf, junior kinesiology major. The class will be held in the kinesiology health studies building in room 153 on Nov. 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“What I really want to capture, especially for dance majors, is to come to this class,” said Assaf. “It is so fun and it is so beneficial.”
Students have the opportunity to try everything from traditional Irish dance steps to reels, slip jigs and hornpipes. Not only will the class help broaden new dance selections but is a good way to get a cardio workout
“There is a lot of jumping and can tone you up really fast,” said Assaf.
Anyone, even if only to observe, is encouraged to come. Assaf specially encourages dance majors and athletic training majors because the Irish dance can not only tone muscle but also increase flexibility, improve coordination and strengthen ones cardiovascular system.
The Northshore Irish Dance Performance Academy is offering a weekly Irish dance class at Fellom Ballet Studio taught by Assaf, starting Oct. 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Signups for this class will be available at the demonstration class. This grand opening of the class at Fellom Ballet Studio will feature food, drink and live Irish music.
The Northshore Irish Dance Performance Academy is for ages four and up and is friendly for beginners and advanced dancers.
Not only will those in the class get to enjoy Irish dancing weekly but will have the opportunity to perform in different venues and festivals.
Comfortable attire is recommended for classes, along with a bottle of water.  For more information contact Ariel Assaf at [email protected] or Jan Gunter, administrator/teacher, at [email protected].
