    Visual Arts Scholarships

    According to Dr. Irene Nero, “Most artists in the real world are constantly trying to get funding. So in order to get a glimpse at how this works we have created an opportunity for students at Southeastern Louisiana University to gain funds for schooling in a very similar way.” This is not an opportunity that should be squandered. According to Dr Irene Nero, “The average minimum cost of supplies to be an art major running around five hundred dollars.”

     The Visual Arts department is offering six scholarships this year. Each scholarship is different and meant to cater to different needs. The awarded amount of the scholarships runs from $325 to $1,467.

    The Gertie Hyde Endowed Scholarship in Visual Arts is awarded to one student each semester and its retention is one year. The amount of the scholarship is three hundred and twenty five dollars. You must have a major in the arts and have a 2.75 cumulative GPA. High school students must have at 2.75 GPA as well. In addition, all students applying for the scholarship must submit a portfolio of five to ten works of art for review by the Department Chair and Interdepartmental selection committee.

    The Major A. Morrison Endowed Scholarship in Visual Arts is awarded to one student each semester and its retention is one year. The amount of the scholarship is three hundred and twenty five dollars. You must have a major in the arts and have a 3.0 cumulative GPA. High school students must have a 3.25 GPA.

    The Lacy Ann Livingston Memorial Scholarship in the Visual Arts is awarded to one student each semester and its retention is one year. The amount of the scholarship is three hundred and forty one dollars.  To be awarded this scholarship you must be an art major. You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA. High school students must have a 3.25 GPA.

    The Sharon Ackermann Ledet Endowed Scholarship in the Visual Arts is awarded to one student each semester and has retention of one year. The amount of this scholarship is four hundred eighty one dollars.  To be awarded this scholarship you must be an art major. The GPA requirement for this scholarship is a 2.75 cumulative GPA. All High school student s applying for the scholarship must have a 2.75 GPA.

    The Holly and Smith Architects, Inc. APAC Excellence in Visual Arts or Music is awarded to one student each semester and has a retention of eight semesters. The awarded amount of the scholarship is eight hundred twenty three dollars and fifty cents per semester.  To receive this scholarship you must be either a visual art or music major.  The scholarship requires that you graduated from Tangipahoa, St. Tammany, W. Feliciana, Ascension, or Livingston parish. You must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Visual Arts majors that receive this award must leave a piece of art for the University. Music majors must perform a concert his/her senior year.
