    Artists check-in for lock-in

The Southeastern Visual Art Society (VAS) held a right-brained extravaganza on Thursday, Nov. 11 at Clark Hall with their bi-annual Art Night Lock-In from 6-11 p.m.

VAS is a campus group comprised of art students, both majoring and non-majoring, who strive to improve themselves and their community through their art. Art Night is their bi-annual social event where members and friends are encouraged to mix and mingle.

“We invite all of the art majors to come out and anyone on the Southeastern campus to just enjoy the art facilities that are here and congregate and mix around with all of the people and get to know them,” said Trent Palm, a junior visual art major and president of VAS.

Students gathered at Clark Hall and met up in the courtyard to the rear of the building. Several students brought guitars and other instruments to play throughout the night. Among the night’s events, attendees were given the opportunity to create their own paintings and fence using foam swords. Students also took the time to relax and kick back.

“So far, my favorite part of the night was being able to prance all over the canvases in my bare feet, it was great,” said Kayla Decoteau, a junior majoring in art education and VAS secretary.

However, the night’s activities did not limit themselves to the main events going on in the courtyard. Inside the photography lab, a photo booth was set up where students were able to pose using props or take group shots, which will later be posted to the VAS Flickr account for viewing and downloading.

Within the Contemporary Art Gallery, students created a stop-motion animation film that will be available to watch on the VAS Facebook page. Inside Clark Hall, the Southeastern Print Club held a fundraiser. Students were able to print designs on T-shirts for a reasonable fee of $3 if a shirt was provided and $5 if one was not.

Food was served at the event as well, including regular and vegetarian hot dogs and burgers, chips and drinks, all available for a two dollar fee for all-you-can-eat. All proceeds went to the VAS.

The event was enjoyable for VAS members as well as students who return each year.

“It’s always amazing every year,” said Rebecca Brown a senior new media and animation major. “There’s always something fun to do. Most of the time it’s art related. It’s usually random craziness.”

More information on VAS and their upcoming events can be found by visiting the group’s Facebook page.
