    ‘Looking Back’ and ‘Moving Forward’

The students in the Moxie Dance concert titled “Looking Back-Moving Forward” will be performing modern and contemporary styles of dance this Thursday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Vonnie Borden Theatre.

Dana Plazinic, the dance coordinator, said that the recital will honor the founders of modern dance. Tickets for “Looking Back-Moving Forward” are $4 for general admission and $2 for students.

“We are celebrating the rich history of modern dance and its pioneers. All of the pieces have been influenced or guided by one of the pioneers of modern dance,” said Plazinic.

The dances that will be performed were choreographed by Kaleigh Brandt, Shania-Lin Lewis, Giara Major, Ashanti McLaurin, Crystal Shayot and Ashli Tallo.

Those choreographers will be performing along with Millenique Brown, Hannah Graves, Sarah Gregoire, Averi Harris, Stephanie Hughes, Denee Johnson, Destiny Levert, Leah Reeb, Danielle Smiley and Jaquan Warren.

Plazinic said there will be another opportunity to see the dancers perform in April.

“We are presenting the first Moxie Performance Art Festival on Friday, March 20 in downtown Hammond in conjunction with the Downtown Development District’s Art in April event. Moxie dancers will be performing at various locations downtown throughout the evening. The performance will include work by guest artist, Allison Orr of Danceworks in Austin, Texas. I will also be presenting work as will student Kaleigh Brandt and alumnus Ashli Tallo,” said Plazinic.
