The upcoming Green and Gold Week at Southeastern will feature many home games and other events aimed at building Lion pride spirit on campus. The week of events will take place on Sept. 4 through 9, leading up to the Lions’ first home football game versus the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Saturday, Sept. 8.
This year, Green and Gold Week will feature many home games. On Thursday, Sept. 6, the Lady Lions volleyball team will play Southern at 7 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 7, they will play versus Pan Am at 1 p.m. and versus Weber State at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 8, the volleyball team will compete against Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m. The Lions Soccer team will play against University of Louisiana at Monroe on Friday, Sept. 7, at 3 p.m.
“In our plans for Green and Gold Week, we wanted to build spirit on campus with our students, faculty and staff, as well as in the community and with local businesses,” said Carley Cryer, coordinator of Student Marketing and Promotions for Athletics.
Many local businesses will be offering discounts and specials to customers wearing Lions gear during the week.
“We will host a Green and Gold Week Pride Prowl, which is a week-long scavenger hunt for students,” said Cryer. “We will have Pride Spies looking to reward students with free stuff for wearing Lions gear all week. We will host a Lunch with the Lions on Thursday starting at 11:00 a.m. in the Union Park for students and a pep rally at 12:15 p.m.”
A new addition to Green and Gold Week will be the “Let the Good Times Roar Video and Photo Contest,” in which Lions fans will have the chance to submit entries showing off their Lion pride.
The contest is open to all Lion fans, and entries can be made in one of the following five categories: Businesses, School Classes, Student Organizations, Campus Departments or Family and Friends.
“We created the ‘Let the Good Times Roar Video and Photo Contest’ as a way for students, fans and community members to get involved and show their Lion pride,” said Cryer.
To enter the contest, submit entries to [email protected] with “ROAR CONTEST ENTRY” as the subject. Indicate one category and the name and phone number of the contact person in the email. The deadline for submission is Thursday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.
“The winners of each category will receive 10 tickets with shared Strawberry Stadium Party Patio access for the Lions vs. Northwestern State game on Oct. 13,” said Cryer. “Student winners will also win a Southeastern Athletics prize pack.”
Green and Gold Week promises to offer many fun events for everyone so make sure to get some Lions gear for Sept. 4.
