Due to last minute scheduling conflicts while getting ready for the Miss Louisiana pageant, the 2011 trunk show has been cancelled this year.
The event, which would have showcased Miss Southeastern 2011 Gabrielle Palma, was to take place on Thursday, June 16 as part of Palma's preparations to compete with other pageant winners across the state.
Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board (CAB), the trunk show traditionally allows each Miss Southeastern to model the outfits she will wear for the Miss Louisiana pageant. The show is also considered as a special sendoff from Southeastern students, faculty and community members who are unable to travel and attend the pageant.
After being crowned Miss Southeastern in August, Palma began preparations for the Miss Louisiana pageant, which will be held in Monroe at the Monroe Civic Center's Jack L. Howard Theatre. She will compete in the categories of interview, swimsuit, evening gown and talent. Thursday's trunk show would have included a preview of the outfits Palma will wear throughout the Miss Louisiana competition held on June 23-25.
Palma, originally from Mandeville, is a mass communication and journalism major at Southeastern and will be a junior this fall. If she wins at the Miss Louisiana pageant, she will go on to represent the state of Louisiana in the Miss America pageant in January 2012.
According to CAB Administrative Assistant Dawn Dottolo-Starkey, Palma has been working hard for towards her goals at the pageant, and she has high hopes for Palma's trip.
"Campus Activities Board and Southeastern wishes her well on her journey to the Miss Louisiana pageant," said Dottolo-Starkey.
