    130 employers expected on campus

On Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, the Office of Career Services will be hosting the annual Career Fair from 9 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. in the Pennington Student Activity Center. The Career Fair is open to all Southeastern students and alumni looking to network and learn more about companies that could be potential employers.
“Approximately 1,000 students and alumni are expected to attend,” said Beverly Sellers, a career counselor with the Office of Career Services. “Career Fair 2012 is an excellent opportunity for Southeastern students and alumni to market their qualifications in person to employers, while learning about a wide variety of careers and internships that exist, and job openings that are available, or will be available in the future.”
There is no cost to attend the fair. Although it is an open event, the Career Fair is mainly intended for alumni and students within three semesters of graduating.
The Career Fair is held every fall semester and features over 125 local and national employers that are seeking to fill positions in their companies and organizations.
“Of the over 130 employers who have registered for Career Fair, these are some of the stand-out employers: Archer Daniels Midland, Coca-Cola Refreshments, Entergy Services Inc., the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Marathon Petroleum Company LP, Postlethwaite and Netterville, the United States Department of Defense – Defense Contract Audit Agency and the Drug Enforcement Administration,” said Sellers. “There are also various graduate programs of study on and off campus that will be represented. There will be opportunities to interact with employers for every major.”
For a complete list of employers, view the Career Fair information page on the Southeastern Website under the Office of Career Services.
“Please take advantage of this great opportunity to connect face-to-face with employers,” said Sellers. “Don’t feel intimidated in any way about attending or interacting with company and organization representatives. They are at Career Fair 2012 because they are interested in you, students and alumni of Southeastern Louisiana University. They are there to answer questions about their organizations and their career opportunities.”
To prepare for Career Fair, it is suggested that students research the organizations that they are interested in.
Students planning to attend the Career Fair should dress to impress and remember to bring copies of their resume.
“A walk-in resume review service to assist students in communicating their qualifications in the best possible light is being offered,” said Sellers. “We also have information on professional dress, and how to approach and converse with employers, on our web site, under ‘Career Fair 2012, Pre-Fair Events’.”
The Lion Traxx will be providing a temporary shuttle stop next to the Pennington Student Activity Center on the Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to make it easier and more convenient for students to attend.
