The Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority held “AO Pride Week” to promote the organization and to show what Alpha Omicron Pi has to offer.
AO Pride week was held Monday, Sept. 9 through Friday. Sept. 13 in the War Memorial Student Union.
A member of Alpha Omicron Pi, Iriel Parker, provided insight into what it is all about.
“Basically, it is our way of showing Southeastern what we can do as a sorority,” said Parker.
The sorority will be hosting events to help out organizations and promote philanthropy overall. Examples of events being hosted for AO Pride Week are MADD Dash, where Alpha Omicron Pi members team up with MADD to prevent drunk driving, and Strike Out Arthritis, which is a bowling tournament held to raise money to help fund arthritis research. The girls of Alpha Omicron Pi also gave away free baked goods in the union throughout the week.
“The goal? To show Southeastern how Alpha Omicron Pi can be of help and what good we can do for the university. It is also about showing our new members how fun Southeastern is, what we do for the community and promoting the sisterhood,” said Parker.
The members of Alpha Omicron Pi are very excited about AO Pride week and are looking forward to activities and upcoming events this semester.
“This year we are really excited about getting our new members to be active in the community and homecoming,” said Kathryn Kennedy another member of Alpha Omicron Pi. Many people came up for a free cookie and talked to the ladies about all of their events.
“I think what they are doing is awesome,” said Kaylyn Carrier undecided freshman, “Helping out the community is important and you just don’t see many people on campus doing it.”
AO Pride Week is meant to help the community out while integrating Alpha Omicron Pi’s new members into their sisterhood. All the girls were hopeful for the results of this important week and greeted everyone with a smile.
