Phil’s Market, Tommy’s on Thomas, Zoe’s Bakery and World’s End Cafe are all donating food and wine to the Wine with Friends event held on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Sims Memorial Library. Hosted by the Friends of Sims Memorial Library (FoSL), an organization formed to support activities in the library, the wine tasting event will also feature live music and a silent auction.
“All the money that we raise with this event goes to whatever the library needs,” said Margaret Adelmann, the secretary of FoSL and a chair on this year’s wine tasting committee. “If they don’t have funds for, say purchasing new books or equipment, it’s used to support the library.”
The 4th annual wine tasting event will have a live music performance by Richard Schwartz, instructor of fine and performing arts, and Danny Acosta who is an associate professor in mathematics. Original artwork will be available for bid by some students and faculty, as well as local artist Pat Macaluso. Wine with Friends is a smaller, more relaxed gathering to generate support for Southeastern.
“Compared to other fundraising events like Chef’s Evening, that’s a very large event; we are a much more intimate event,” Adelmann said.
According to Eric Johnson, director of Sims Memorial Library, it is the main fundraising event put on by the library each year, and the night is meant for community members to enjoy the library.
“The wine tasting is a fun event for faculty, staff and the university community, and it brings more people into our library,” said Johnson.
Tickets will not be sold at the door. The cost is $35 and they can be ordered at southeastern.edu/givenow, or you can mail in a check made payable to the Southeastern Development Foundation, SLU 10896, Hammond, LA 70402.
