    Presenting Fanfare 2012

Fanfare is Southeastern’s month-long celebration of the arts, which takes place every October and features over 50 events, including art exhibits, lectures, concerts, films, theatrical productions and more.
Fanfare is on its 27th season and the festival continues to expose people to all disciplines of the arts through a multitude of artistic and academic offerings.
The goal of Fanfare is to expose Southeastern students and the local community to the arts. The festival was created to offer cultural and artistic experiences to people who have been isolated from the arts due to lack of financial means or opportunities.
“As always, Southeastern’s Fine and Performing Arts Department is offering a great number of ‘must see’ events for Fanfare,” said Dr. Kenneth Boulton, the interim department head for the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. “Among these include the return of Southeastern’s 2010 Alumnus of the Year, Donald George, in a spectacular recital on Oct. 8; two magnificent concerts by the Southeastern Wind Symphony featuring renowned composer and conductor Johan de Meij; the captivating play, ‘Murderous Innocent’; the second annual Halloween ‘Spooktacular’ by the Southeastern Chamber Orchestra; and several provoking exhibitions in Southeastern’s Contemporary Art Gallery.”
Tenor Donald George, an associate professor of Vocal Music at the Crane School of Music, will be performing on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Pottle Auditorium. George will be accompanied by pianist Lucy Mauro, an associate professor at West Virginia University.
The English Department will present a series of lectures by the department’s creative writing faculty, which is entitled “Louisiana Connections: Fiction and Poetry Readings by English Department Faculty.”
Jack Bedell, an English professor at Southeastern, editor of “Louisiana Literature” and author of several poetry collections, is scheduled to read on Oct. 9 at 12:30 p.m. in the Writing Center in D Vickers Hall Room 383.
Others to be featured in this series of lectures include writers-in-residence Tim Gautreaux and Bev Marshall, David Armand, Richard Louth, Alison Pelegrin, Norman German, Leigh Rourks and David Rodriguez.
The College of Education and Human Development’s Teaching and Learning Department will also be presenting a new lecture series, entitled “Forum on Milestones – Forty Miles of Courage 120 Years Later.”
The History and Science Department will also be presenting the popular “Then and Now” lecture series.
Southeastern theatre will be presenting the play “Murderous Innocent” in the Vonnie Borden Theatre in D Vickers Hall on Oct. 16-19. “Murderous Innocent” is written by New York playwright Tommy Jamerson.
The 2012-13 season at the Columbia Theatre will be opening with the return of ‘Capitol Steps,’ which is a group of former Senate staffers who satirize the people who used to employ them, on Oct. 10.
Fanfare will also show its annual Foreign Films Series, which will include films from France, Spain, Germany and Italy.
