Laser tag takes over Pennington Center

The Campus Activities Board hosted a day of laser tag at the Pennington Student Activity Center free to all students on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Originally laser tag had been set to take place outside on Lee Field, but due to the weather it took place at the Pennington.
Todd McElroy, CAB’s coordinator said the university brought in the game through a private company.
“We rented from an outside company,” said McElroy. “They bring it in and set it up and run it for us.”
Students had the chance to win prizes during the laser tag game, according to McElroy.
“We do have some prizes from Safari Quest that we are going to give out to some people that do participate,” said McElroy.
Because of the high student turnout, students may expect to play laser tag on campus in the near future.
“Laser tag seems to be very popular so we try to bring it every year or every other year,” said McElroy.
CAB coordinators took first hand at experiencing laser tag in the Pennington.
Mehesh Khanal, a sophomore computer science major and CAB student worker, said he was glad the event was forced inside.
“I thought at first it was going to be outside, but due to the rain it came inside,” said Khanal. “I like playing inside. It’s amazing. It is really good for students, and it’s absolutely free.”
Sharon Ann Ourso, a sophomore nursing major, said the game was a refreshing alternate to her track and field practice.
“It was fun especially since we usually don’t have a different thing to do,” said Ourso. “Our practice [track and field] got canceled, and we are coming to the Rec for the rest of the week and doing strenuous activity, so it [laser tag] was a nice alternative.”
Raeven Scott, a freshman biological science major said the game was fun and provided a different activity for students.
Scott expressed her gratitude to CAB for bringing laser tag to the Pennington.
“I think it is cool that they are actually trying to bring different things and have stuff for people to do because it’s a break from studying,” said Scott. “Interacting with people, it was cool.”
Tierney McCoy, a senior computer science major, said that the effort it took to play the game was harder than what was expected.
“It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be because I’m tired now, and my hearts’ racing,” McCoy. “I think it was good idea [playing laser tag]. It’s awesome, and I wish more kids would actually do it.”
Other students said that their experience playing video games helped them win the game.
“It was fun, definitely Call of Duty has paid off, and any other shooting game that has taught me my shooting experience,” said Dimitri Dauphin, a sophomore psychology major.  “It was definitely preparation. I like the set up here; I enjoyed it.”
CAB in partnership with the Pennington Activities Board will host the “Campus Activities Board Movie on the Big Screen” on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The event will also take place in the Pennington from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
