From the editor: Time for a fresh start

It’s a new year and a new semester, which means it’s the perfect time for a fresh start. At Student Publications, we have a new yearbook editor as well as a new duo in charge of The Lion’s Roar. We are ready to bring you the news and entertainment you are looking for, and hope you are all embracing the New Year and semester.

I used to think making a new year’s resolution was useless. I would always set some unrealistic expectation for myself that I would ultimately quit on by mid-March. But over the past few years I’ve learned the secret to making a new year’s resolution that I can actually stick to.

First off, you should think small. Set a realistic goal, such as workout more often or study more. You can even set a goal for your GPA this semester. It gives you something positive to work toward without the pressure of trying to hit the gym for an hour per day or study during all your free time.

The New Year is all about change and experiencing new things. It means graduation for some, milestone birthdays for others, moving out of town, starting a new job and the list goes on. One big change to Southeastern this semester will be the War Memorial Student Union addition, which will finally be open for everyone to use. All Campus Dining options will be located in one, convenient, location. Go experience what you’ve paid for, and enjoy it while you are still a student here.

Is life not what you wanted it to be in 2013? Use 2014 to find yourself. You might find you are perfectly happy single, or you might fall in love. Grades not what you wanted in the fall? Last semester is behind you. Now you can start the spring semester off strong and hopefully end this school year on a positive note and a high GPA. Whatever you weren’t happy with in the fall, now is the time to put in extra effort and make changes in your life where you see fit.

Remember: Southeastern is an excellent place for more than just getting a higher education. It’s a great place to build relationships with people who may be important business contacts and lifelong friends. College should be the best years of your life, so put yourself out there. Make new friends, try new things and be the person you want to be. It’s a new year, and anything could happen, but it’s up to you to go for it.
