Alpha Phi Alpha Ball themed “The Grandeur”

The annual Alpha Ball, hosted by the Kappa Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., promises to offer splendor in all aspects. This year the ball is titled, “The Grandeur” and is open to all students and alumni.

In the late 1970s, the chapter began this ball to commemorate the accomplishments of not only the chapter, but the fraternity as a whole. The ball did not take place for about a decade until the current chapter decided to bring it back last year.

“Last year’s ball, titled ‘Resurrection’ was an awesome turn out,” said Joshua Allen, event coordinator for Alpha Phi Alpha. “The student body was more than supportive and helped us make this one of the biggest events of the year.”

The Alpha Ball will be held at 7 p.m on March 21 in the new Student Union Ballroom. Tickets are $20 per person, and the proceeds will fund Kappa Nu’s expenses for their upcoming regional and national conventions, which will take place over the next two months.

During the spring semester, the Alpha Ball is Alpha Phi Alpha’s most anticipated event. Both alumni and current students on campus look forward to attending. Many Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity brothers and students from other universities come to enjoy this evening as well.

“This is one night that we as students can dress to impress and gather together in an evening of elegance,” said Allen. “The chapter has an awesome connection with the student body at Southeastern so this will be a great time for all of us to come together.”

According to Allen, the décor for the evening will consist of white and gold to play up the “Grandeur” theme. In addition, there will be catered food and live music.

“My brothers and I are more than excited to get into the new ballroom for this event,” said Allen. “The ballroom preview was amazing, so I know the decorations we have planned from the ball are going to make the space spectacular.”

For the “Resurrection” Alpha Ball in 2013, there were about 100 people in attendance. The fraternity is hoping to double the number of attendees this year. Allen promises that the Alpha Ball will be the event that all in attendance will remember for the rest of their collegiate experience.
