The Lion's Roar

Take a journey to the past and make our ancestors proud

Most of the time we like to forget where we came from. Actually, I’d say just about all the time we forget. We don’t even think about it. And no, I don’t mean where you were born or where you moved from. I mean where, as humans, we came from. We, as a race, were created, or evolved, to live in unity with the natural world. It makes sense, whether you believe in a god or not, you can’t deny that we are a species. We adapted to live in nature and to be a part of it, not just on it. To me, and I’m sure to many of you when you look at the evidence, we were not meant to live in this modern world we have created for ourselves.

I commute to school all the way from Slidell. So, I spend plenty of time in my car. Not only do I have a lot of time to think, but a lot of time to think about my car. I know I might sound weird, but hear me out. Very often we don’t even think twice about our lives. We get up, go to school or work, maybe have some fun and go home. Whether your life is more exciting or more boring is irrelevant. But, I want you to look at the details of it. Everything from the cars we drive to the roads we drive on to the buildings we live in to the food we eat is all artificial. And if it’s not artificial, it comes to us in unnatural ways. We have come to live in a society that we were not made for, and because of it, we are losing what makes us, us.

Now, what am I saying here? I’m saying that this world we’re creating for ourselves is not one that we are supposed to live in. A few days ago, I saw this thing that was talking about how the proper way to poop is not sitting down but squatting. Yes, I am writing what, I’d like to say, is a relevant and serious opinion, and I just talked about the proper way to poop. But, think about that. Even the more comfortable, helpful invention that is known as the toilet doesn’t help us because it’s not what we were designed for. Now, think about if you went to a gym. You want to get fit, so the instructor says you have to eat healthy. What kinds of food does he tell you to eat? Natural food. In order to be healthy, he tells us to lay off all the other stuff and stick to the natural food vegetables, fruits and sometimes simple meat. It’s what our ancestors would have eaten.

Honestly, I believe that this alone should prove to us that the modern environment we have created for ourselves is doing more harm than good. Trust me, I’m not saying we should give up all technology and live in the forest because I know I definitely don’t want to give up air conditioning. What I am saying is maybe we should take more trips outside, look at the stars or go for a walk in the natural world we were made for. Maybe even make some changes to our lives to be more accommodating of our nature, like eating more naturally or, yes, even going to the bathroom more naturally. Putting aside all the jokes, this really is very important. The further away we drift from our past, the further away we drift from who we were meant to be.
