    2012 Homecoming week approaches

Southeastern’s annual Homecoming Week festivities will take place from October 20 through 28. The week of fun-filled activities will lead up to the Homecoming football game against Central Arkansas on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at Strawberry Stadium.
This year the theme of Homecoming Week will be “Roomie Goes for the Gold.”
“What usually happens during Homecoming Week is a lot of food, a lot of picnics, including Gumbo Ya-Ya, which will take place on Wednesday,” said Kayla Turner, chief justice of the Student Government Association. “Definitely make sure you are wearing green and gold on Monday for Green and Gold Day.”
The annual Gumbo Ya Ya party will take place in the Student Union Park at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
In addition to the usual line-up, Homecoming Week will also feature a few changes.
“What will be a little different will be that we won’t be having a prep rally,” said Turner. “Instead it will be Lunch with the Lions on Monday, which is just a lot of free food and activities on Monday afternoon.”
There will also be a special new addition to Homecoming Week that will take running to a different level.
“This year, we are doing a Lion Pride Paint Run, kind of like a color run, but not a color run,” said Turner. “Basically, we will all gather in North Oaks Park. Participants are asked to wear white, and they’re going to run and paint is going to be thrown on them. It’s for a good cause.”
Those wishing to participate just have to donate three old T-shirts or a pair of lightly-used shoes. Donations will go towards Project Sole to help people who need clothes and shoes.
The Lion Pride Run will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 5:30 p.m.
“The Lip-Sync Competition, which is always great and fun, will be held Thursday night on the North Campus field by the University Center,” said Turner.
The annual Bonfire and SGA Block Party will begin at the University Center field at 6:45 p.m., leading into the Lip-Sync Competition at 7 p.m.
On game day, Saturday, Oct. 27, Lion fans will have the opportunity to tailgate as usual, as well as many special Homecoming activities. Beginning at 1:30 p.m., there will be entertainment at Friendship Circle. Then everyone will be able to watch the Homecoming Parade go around campus starting at 3 p.m. The usual Lion Walk will take place at 4:30 p.m. and pre-game activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Strawberry Stadium. At half-time, the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned.
Be sure to keep track of all of the events that Homecoming Week has to offer and show Lion Pride all week.
