Grad Fair to prepare seniors for graduation

Graduating seniors are encouraged to attend the fall 2014 Grad Fair, where students can take the steps to prepare for graduation in one convenient location.

Grad Fair will be held in the Alumni Center on north campus Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free pizza will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and cookies will be served all day, complimentary of the Alumni Association.

Jackie Dale Thomas, sponsor of Gamma Beta Phi, first established Grad Fair. Many representatives from various departments will aid seniors in making finalizations.

“Grad Fair is a one stop shop for graduating seniors,” said Kathy Pittman, director of the Alumni Association. “They can purchase their ring, cap and gown, invitations, take a graduation photo and more all in one place.”

Photographers will be taking cap and gown photos that will appear in Le Souvenir yearbook, and students will have the option of paying for prints of their pictures.

“It is a co-sponsorship of Southeastern Alumni Association and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society and has been in existence for over 15 years. We usually have well over 800 attend, and this is an excellent opportunity for both the students and the departments,” said Pittman.

The Alumni Association will be present to indicate which chapters seniors can become a member of after graduation. Career Services will help with constructing an emergency resume and finding employment. Financial Aid will assist with student loans.

In addition, Athletics will be there to educate seniors on how they can purchase season tickets to football games. The Southeastern Foundation will help seniors order their graduation cords by joining Lion Legacy. Professors who are able to discuss graduate programs will also be present.

Students may also pick up their yearbook, the cost for which has already been included in their tuition. It is recommended that students bring checks and credit or debit cards.

Lastly, all seniors will report about their Southeastern experience through exit interviews.

“It is very easy browse and things move along quickly,” said Pittman. “This is an awesome program for future graduates, and the Alumni Association is very proud to partner with Gamma Beta Phi to provide this to our future alumni.”
