Alpha Sigma Tau brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “pretty boy” as they anticipate their second Mr. Green and Gold Pageant.
The pageant is scheduled for Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Theater.
According to the AST website, their motto is “Active, Self- Reliant and Trustworthy.”
Proceeds will come from participants paying $10 and audience members paying $5 in advance or $7 at the event. AST members are raising money for their chapter and philanthropy, South Tangipahoa Parish Relay for Life.
“The audience should anticipate a fun and entertaining competition. The pageant is meant to be fun for the participants as well as the audience,” said sophomore AST member Victoria McCarson.
The Mr. Green and Gold Pageant can be compared to Miss Southeastern. Nineteen male participants are going to compete in talent, interview, swimsuit and formal wear.
“I’m looking forward most to the talent portion because it is always fun to see what the guys come up with for their talent,” said McCarson.
Each participant will receive a T-shirt and gift basket. The winner of the pageant gets a sash, crown and surprise gift. Other awards go to runner-up, people’s choice and most talented.
As the date approaches, anticipate a fun-filled contest.
“This is our second year doing it, and now it has become something that we really look forward to,” said McCarson.
In addition to planning the pageant, AST members have also held an Alum Day Lunch on Sunday, Oct. 25. The event was to enable the local alum chapter a chance to meet the current actives in the sorority.
Apart from being the oldest sorority on the campus, AST has also been awarded the Founder’s Award at the 38th annual National Convention. This prestigious award is given by the AST National Council to recognize the top collegiate chapter in the nation based on criteria of sorority, college and community life.
