On Sunday, March 15, Hollywood’s biggest stars gathered for the 98th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, with comedian Conan O’Brien as a returning host.
Beyond being the industry’s most prestigious acting honor, the Academy Awards, more commonly known as the Oscars, have cultivated a secondary, equally iconic legacy in fashion.
Our Social Media Editor Roselyn Rivas and Arts and Entertainment Editor Eva Saladino sat down and discussed their picks for best (and worst) dressed at the Oscars red carpet.
First is Rivas’ review of her favorite fashion choices of the night:
Miles Caton put his best foot forward with his golden-tipped, leather boots. He wore a custom AMIRI tailored ensemble, displaying a monochromatic plum look. The boots, however, were my favorite part of the outfit, bringing a refined cowboy vibe.
Making an unforgettable debut, Ariana Greenblatt warmly lit the red carpet with her draping ivory gown and warm toffee hair. She gave off effortless femininity with the floral appliques and the long train. Personally, I love smooth, silky fabrics that flow with your natural curves; they accentuate the beauty that you already carry.
The 2008 archival John Galliano gown exuded a romantic springtime light for the photographs. Greenblatt’s fashion choices were classy, traditional and on everyone’s Pinterest board.
Glistening in a custom Louis Vuitton white hand-embroidered empire-cut gown with cap sleeves, Emma Stone walked the red carpet for her Best Actress nomination. She chose a simple, chic look that gave Hollywood glamour. I love clothing pieces that display your décolletage and Stone’s dress did just that. It’s the ultimate accessory given to us by Mother Nature.
To tie the look together, she displayed her copper coquette bob with curled ends and wore LV ombre eyeshadow and rouge lipstick. Investing in simple pieces that enhance your natural features is the ultimate fashion move: “Less is more.”
Next is Saladino’s choices for best fashion-forward stars:
Musical artist Shaboozey stepped out on the red carpet decked out in a custom, reimagined Cambillo suit from their fall/winter 2026 collection. His sharp black tuxedo was accentuated with pearl details, a shimmery brooch and two-toned loafers, elevating the look and setting him apart from more traditional Oscars suits.
The waistcoat and high collar brought an early 1900s, art deco-esque look that I felt perfectly paid homage to his on-stage performance of the Oscar-nominated song “I Lied To You” from “Sinners”.
Wearing a custom Dior gown, actress Mia Goth attended the 98th Academy Awards with a boho look that was sure to turn heads. Goth’s cream-colored gown was full of feminine, frilly details, held up elegantly by thin spaghetti straps. The ruching of the fabric around Goth’s hips, along with the delicate floral detailing, made for a striking silhouette.
With a harmonious color palette made up of the cream gown, muted mauve lip and reddish-brown hair, Goth’s look heavily contrasted with the dark aesthetic of the Oscar-nominated film “Frankenstein” she starred in.
Emma Stone, being nominated for Best Actress for her performance in the Oscar-nominated film “Bugonia”, came dressed in custom Louis Vuitton. Sparkling from head to toe, Stone resembled an award herself in her backless, silvery-white gown complete with cap sleeves and a sultry, fitted shape.
Stone’s look was unarguably 90s-inspired, and paired with her iconic red hair styled in a short bob and shimmery soft makeup, she dropped jaws with every step.
Though there were clearly strong statements in fashion on the iconic red carpet, there were some that Rivas and Saladino collectively thought were not “en vogue.”
Rising star Timothee Chalamet emerged on the Oscars red carpet wearing a custom all-white suit by Givenchy designer Sarah Burton, though instead of polished and chic, the choice felt tacky and misaligned.
Chalamet is no stranger to the monochromatic style, like his butter-yellow suit at last year’s Oscars, but this year’s appearance resembled a retired 2000s boy band member still holding on to his famous past.
Another not-so-glamorous choice was made by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who wore a custom cream Giorgio Armani silk gown featuring a jarring slit that climbed the majority of her side. What would have been a classy, simple and Oscars-worthy gown was turned sour with such an unnecessary showing of the skin.
Paltrow has become a red carpet pioneer ever since her 1999 appearance in the iconic bubblegum pink Ralph Lauren dress at the 71st Academy Awards, however this year she missed the mark.
Lastly, for the flopped fashion picks is Sigourney Weaver, who wore a custom Valentino gown. The majority of Weaver’s gown was a gold, scalloped beading; her wrists and neck were lined with silver and teal beading. Individually, the beading itself is stunning, but we didn’t love them combined.
Mixing gold and silver used to be a big fashion faux pas, but it’s becoming a modern style choice adopted by many. As Rivas mentioned earlier, however, sometimes less is more.
The 2026 awards season came to an end with jewels, florals, and an anticipation for what’s next.
