Dr. Christy Montgomery is the assistant vice president for student affairs, dean of students and senior compliance officer. She also teaches higher education courses in the doctoral program in education leadership.

Montgomery said she loves working with students and watching them transform from their first semester as they determine what they want to be. 

“College is a time when students find their identity and what they want to be in life,” Montgomery said. 

She said she is excited to be part of that journey and looks forward to their success.

Before coming to Southeastern, Montgomery worked at Northshore Technical Community College for 10 years. She said she was guided by Dr. Wainwright there, a leader whose vision and approach she admires. 

Looking to expand her reach and work more closely with students, she was drawn to on-campus opportunities that allowed her to become more involved in student life, leading her to student affairs at Southeastern.

While pursuing her doctoral degree, Montgomery emphasized the importance of academic and family support. She sought to research students’ education and how they can be successful. She continued that work as a licensed professional counselor, supporting students emotionally, mentally and academically.

Montgomery said she recognizes the importance of her leadership role and the example it sets for other women.

“It is critically important and something that I don’t take lightly,” Montgomery said. 

She added that her goals are to open doors and set an example for others, and she feels it is important for her to succeed so she can create opportunities for those who follow in her footsteps.
