Rising artists showcase their projects
Many members of the community, including relatives of the artists, visited the Hammond Regional Arts Center during its opening reception. Artwork ranging from paintings to sculptures will be on display through Mar. 29.
Artists in grades K-12 have their works on display in downtown Hammond.
The Hammond Regional Arts Center held the opening reception for the “Young Artists Exhibition” on Friday, Mar. 8 from 5-8 p.m.
Maureen Joyce, executive director of the HRAC, explained that students from surrounding elementary and high schools worked on their submitted pieces throughout the school year.
“Their teacher picked out particular artwork to showcase at the event, and we have lots of activities during this month to bring lots of people into the center to see their artwork,” said Joyce.
The three events coming later this month are “Belle Journal” on Mar. 22, “KidZart” on Mar. 23, and “Easter Basket Weaving Classes” starting on Mar. 26.
Sandy Baham, vice president for the Hammond Art Guild, shared that the “Young Artists Exhibition” is an important event because it encourages young artists to explore and present their creativity.
Baham attends the arts center whenever it has an exhibition, and she explained that the HRAC has grown in a positive direction.
“Maureen Joyce has pushed this to another level, and I’m glad to see that,” said Baham.
The exhibition will be on display through Mar. 29.
