The Hammond Regional Arts Center celebrated its annual membership gala with a display of Cuban cigar box guitars, drinks and food from Mojitos Bistro and the Julio and Cesar Band.

The festivities were held at HRAC on May 10 from 5-8 p.m.

This year, the gala’s theme was “A Night in Havana.”

“This year’s theme was chosen because of our sponsors,” stated Maureen Joyce, executive director of HRAC. “Fumee and Red, White & Brew are known for being such a wonderful cigar shop along with being such great sponsors of art. We thought Cuba, Cuban cigars, and then came up with ‘A Night in Havana.’ I love the exposure to new members because a lot of people do not know we have such great art here. The art center does so much for the community with art education and monthly art exhibitions.”

Dana Goblowsky, a board member of HRAC, discussed her favorite part of the gala.

“The people are just absolutely amazing,” explained Goblowsky. “Art comes in a million different ways and styles. We aren’t just displaying the pictures and paintings in tonight’s event. Another form of art that we have on display is the Cuban-styled food.”

Individual, basic membership costs $30. Membership is also available at lower prices for students at $15 and for seniors and military members at $20. To become a member, visit HRAC’s website.
