Students on campus organized holiday sale to promote talent and raise funds.

The Southeastern Ceramics Club hosted a holiday sale on Dec.3 and 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the War Memorial Student Union. The pieces for sale were made by members of the ceramics club.

Janie Dick, a senior art major with a concentration in ceramics, serves as the vice president of the ceramics club. She explained what drew her to ceramics. 

“I started off in art education, but then I just fell in love with the wheel,” said Dick.

Elaine Gulley, president of the ceramics club, mentioned that some people are scared of trying to make ceramics at first.

“I think for people, sometimes it’s intimidating to them, but I think they should just come out if they want to come by the ceramic lab any time and take a look around, one of the students would be happy to show them,” said Gulley.

The ceramics club is open to any student enrolled in a ceramics class. The club consists of more than just art majors.

“We have a lot of non-ceramic majors,” explained Gulley. “Lot of business majors, criminal law, they find that it’s kind of meditative. It gets them away from the stress of all their other classes from their major, so they tend to like it a lot more than they think. They come in thinking it’s just going to be an easy class, but then they really enjoy it and they see the rewards of their work.”

The holiday sale doubles as a way to raise funds for the club as well as for the individual artists.

“The club gets 20%, and then we get to keep the rest,” shared Dick.
