Mr. Green and Gold raises funds for a sorority
Alpha Sigma Tau sorority is hosting its annual Mr. Green and Gold event this week in the Student Union Theatre.
Demi Newton, a junior family and consumer sciences major, shared how the event began.
“It was started a while ago,” stated Newton. “One of our sisters started it as a fundraising event, and it’s just continued on ever since.”
The pageant is scheduled to take place on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Theatre.
Newton feels that the Mr. Green and Gold pageant has historically been a huge success for the sorority.
“It’s just one of those events we don’t want to get rid of because it raises the money we need,” shared Newton. “It’s a good campus-wide event.”
The money that Alpha Sigma Tau raises from the event will go towards funds for tailgating and sorority housing.
“It’s kind of a long process,” stated Newton. “They start planning for it a while ahead. We use faculty members as judges. We get sponsorships. We started doing that again this year. Just getting guys, recruiting them to sign up.”
